Costume Resources

Blue Dress

If you are looking for a ballroom gown and you don't want to pay top dollar for a new one, check out what Abby has for sale on the Services page.

Svetlana Sinitsa of Aleksandr Tailors has made some of Abby's favorite gowns. She works out of Beverly Hills, California but has made a number of the most beautiful gowns seen at US competitions.

In Utah, Red Tango has a good selection of used latin and ballroom costumes for rent.  In addition, Red Tango sells almost everything you need to get ready for your next competition or show.

Hair

Abby Headshot

Abby usually does her own hair and make-up for competitions but every once in a while it's nice to splurge and have someone else do it for you.  This is also a good way to get new ideas and learn some tricks of the trade.  At the Holiday Dance Classic in Las Vegas, Abby had her hair and make-up done by Boyko.  It was a fun experience and a luxury that let Abby focus on dancing her best that night.

Shoes

Abby's favorite shoe is the ICS Superstar with Strap.  It comes in a 2" heel and the strap is almost essential for ladies with narrow feet.  Ira has recently started wearing the Supaflex from Supadance and is quite happy with its performance, durability, and additional flexibility.

DancesportInfo.net is the largest dancesport database currently online.  You can track dancers, competitions, check out the latest styles, and even see if someone is looking for a partner.

Many competitions use the On-line Competition Manager website for registration and results.  It allows you to view upcoming competitions and easily drill-down to see the judge's marks.

Utah Ballroom provides information on local competitions, vendors, and schools.

Forums

An online forum for those who like to chat about partner dancing is Dance Forums.  It is frequented by many amateur and professional dancers, organizers, teachers, and those who just like to talk about dancesport.

Organizations

There are two major organizations in the United States that amateur dancesport competitors should consider joining.  Both have many competitions throughout the year and each has its own national championship.

  • Ira and Abby 2008
  • The National Dance Council of America (NDCA) represents the varied interests of dance professionals and amateurs.  The NDCA campaigns to maintain a high standard of dance education in the US.  In 2012, from March 7th through the 10th, the NDCA has its amateur dancesport championships at Brigham Young University in Provo Utah.
  • USA Dance is the national governing body for dancesport in the US and as such, picks the US representatives to the World DanceSport Federation events that are held around the world.  In 2012, the USA Dance National Championships will be held again in Baltimore, Maryland from March 30th through April 1st.
